A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
parcus,-a,-um (adj.A), compar. parcior,-ius (adj.B); superlative parcissimus,-a,-um (adj.A); superlative adverb parcissime: sparing, moderate, frugal, thrifty, economical; parsimonious, singy; scant, scanty (=few), not much, moderate in amount or degree or intensity, light, slight, meager; opp. copiosus,-a,-um (adj.A), abundant, rich;

- in foliis Coryli deciduis aridis, parcior nobis (S&A), on the fallen, dry leaves of Corylus, more sparingly with us [i.e. in our region].

- albumine carnoso parco aut nullo (DeCandolle), with the albumen fleshy, scant or none.

- foliis subtus glaucis pilosque parcos in nervis gerentibus (DeCandolle), with the leaves below glaucous and bearing not many hairs on the nerves.

- foliis linearibus acutiusculis angustis parcis (DeCandolle), with the leaves linear, somewhat acute, narrow, few.

- semina albumen parcum continentia, seeds containing scanty albumen (endosperm).

- albumen copiosum v. parcum (B&H), albumen copious or scanty; see albumen,-inis (s.n.III).

- embryo hamoso-arcuatus, albumine parco v. subnullo (B&H), with the embryo hooked-arcuate, with the albumen not much or almost absent.

- embryo (ubi notus) arcuatus v. subrectus, albumine parco (B&H), embryo (when noted) arched or rather straight, with the albumen meager.

- albumen speciminum in statu emarcido tantum suppetentium videtur parcum nisi absens (F. Mueller), the albumen of specimens available only in a withered state seem meager if not absent.

- albumen parcum satis mucilaginosum (F. Mueller), albumen meager, rather mucilaginous.

- [fungi] crescit nimirum in foliis Polygoni Convolvuli passim frequens, Aviculariae parcior (S&A), it grows frequently everywhere on the leaves of Polygonum Convolvulum, more sparingly of Avicularia.
