A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

parum (adv.): very little, a little, too little, insufficient, not enough, not very, somewhat; moderately, poorly; comparative minus (adv.), q.v., 'less, not very;' superlative minime (adv.), q.v. 'least, not at all' [> L., related to parvus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.]; cf. 'almost;' see poorly; opp. ‘quam maxime’ = ‘as much as possible;’

- Quum specimina nulla authentica ad manus habeo synonyma afferre nolui; plantae autem in systematae [sic] Algarum ex Adriatico citatae nostram identicam esse, parum dubito (Agardh), when ever have no authentic specimens at hand, I had been unwilling to publish synonyms; however, when I thought my plant to be identical to the plant cited in the systematic arrangement of the Algae from the Adriatic, I hesitated a very little.

- [algae] (cellulae propagatoriae:) aliae enim a cellulis vegetativis parum, aliae quam maxime diversae (Braun), [propagatory cells:] for some are somewhat different from vegetative cells, others are to the greatest possible extent.

- arista tenui inferne parum torta, with the awn thin below a little twisted.

- cellulae proximales haud distinctae vel e seriebus 2-5 cellularum parum majorum compositae, proximal cells not differentiated or composed of 2-5 rows of cells somewhat larger.

- loculis parum in cavernulam extendentibus, with the locules a little into the chamber extending.

- involucelli foliolis lineari-subulatis calyce parum brevioribus (F. Mueller), the leaflets of the involucel linear-subulate, a little shorter than the calyx.

- [fungi] ostiola parum prominentia (S&A), the ostioles somewhat prominent.

- [fungi] sphaerulae in nostris quoque teretes fere, iconi Todeanae parum consonae, nec plano-lamellatae apte dicendae (S&A), the sphaerules in our [sc. species] are also nearly terete [i.e. rounded-cylindrical], somewhat agreeing with the illustration of Tode’s, not correctly to be called plano-lamellate.

- [fungi] ostiola sphaerulas fere aequantia, vel paullo longiora, iis saepe parum tenuiora(S&A), the ostioles nearly equalling [i.e. in length] the sphaerules, or somewhat longer, often than these somewhat thinner.

- corolla lutea glabra calycem parum superans (Boissier), the corolla yellow, glabrous, somewhat overtopping the calyx.

- labio superiore parum profunde bifido lobis obtusis (Boissier), with the upper lip somewhat deeply bifid, with the lobes obtuse.

- seminibus ovatis parce et parum profunde punctulato- depressis (Boissier), with the seeds ovate, meager and somewhat deeply punctulate-depressed.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
