A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
perigonial: perigonialis,-e (adj.B);

- bracteae perigoniales, perigonial bracts.

- (moss) flos masculus gemmaceus in foliis inferioribus sessilis parvus foliis perigonialibus patulis parvis (Mueller), male flower budlike sessile on the lower leaves, small, with the perigonial leaves spreading small.

- (moss) folia perigonialia e basi latissima irregulariter crenata subito subulata nervosa (Mueller), perigonial leaf very broad at the base, irregularly crenate, suddenly subulate, with a conspicuous nerve [i.e. costa].

- (moss) flos masculus in planta propria terminalis magno-gemmaceus foliis perigonialibus latissime vaginantibus (Mueller), the male flower terminal on a special plant, big-budded, with the perigonial leaves very broadly sheathing.

- (moss) folia perigonialia intima caulinis dissimilia: folii lamina aequalis vaginante-latissima apice rotundato; 1. dorsalis ut in caulinis; 1. apicalis e basi sinuata lanceolato acuta, nervo flexuoso ante apicem evanido. (Mueller), the perigonial leaves innermost dissimilar to the stem leaves: equal to the lamina of the leaf, sheathing-very broad, rounded at the apex; or [l. = vel] the dorsal as in the cauline; or the apical sinuate from the base, lanceolate, acute.

- (moss) folia perichaetialia aut perigonialia caulinis angustiora et longius alata (Mueller), the perichaetial or perigonial narrower than the cauline ones and more longly winged.

- (moss) folia perigonialia caulinis simillima (Mueller), the perigonial leaves very similar to the cauline ones.

- (moss) folia perigonialia et perichaetialia perpauca minus dentata(Mueller), perigonial and perichaetial leaves very small, less dentate.

perigonial leaf, (in bryophytes) “modified leaf or underleaf (bract; bracteole) associated with the androecium; collectively forming the perigonium” (Magill 1990): folium (s.n.II) perigoniale, abl. sg. folio perigoniali; nom. & acc. pl. folia perigonialia.
