A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
Pumilio,-onis (s.c.III), abl. sg. pumilione; also pumilo,-onis (s.c.III), pumilone, also pumilius,-ii (s.n.II), abl. sg. pumilio: a dwarf, pigmy, midget; a creature of small stature; in Latin nanus,-i (s.m.II) or nana,-ae (s.f.I); = nanus,-i (s.m.II) or nana,-ae (s.f.I); see dwarf;

- [[moss] in alpinis supra rupes humidas et ad terram umbrosam, praeprimis in regione Pini Pumilionis (C. Mueller), in alpine [sc. locis, places] upon moist rocks and shady soil, especially in the region of Pinus Pumilio.

- Draba pumilio “flores albi minimi” (DeCandolle), flowers white, tiny [i.e. ‘the smallest’].

Pinus mugo var. pumilio, Dwarf Pine, a dwarf variety of Pinus mugo; 3-5' tall by 6-10' wide.

Ranunculus Pumilio; Mathiola pumilio

NOTE: when ‘pumilio’ is used as an epithet after a generic name it is a noun in apposition to the generic name and is declined as a noun (not an adjective modifying the generic name):
