A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

recte (adv.):

a) in a straight line, in a straight (horizontal or vertical) direction; a)- nervis secondariis recte ad marginem tendentibus, with secondary nerves extending in a straight line to the margin.

- carinae 3 supra unguem recte extendentes (F. Mueller), the keels 3, extending straight above the claw.

- [moss] seta basi geniculata apice curva operculoque convexo recte rostrate (C.Muell.), seta bent [i.e. like a knee] at the base, curved at the apex, and the operculum convex, straightly rostrate [i.e. beaked].

- [moss] operculo convexo recte apiculato.(C. Muell), with the operculum convex, straightly apiculate [i.e. with a straight, not curved, straight-apiculuale.

- [moss] folia perichaetialia late lanceolata, intima nervo excedente recte et tenuiter cuspidata (C. Muell.), perichaetial leaves broadly lanceolate, the innermost rising above the costa, straightly and thinly cuspidate.

b) rightly, correctly, suitably; comp. rectius (adv.) straighter; more correctly, suitably; opp. falso (adv.), perperam (adv.); see falsely;

- genus an rectius inter Simarubeas collocandum?; a genus perhaps more correctly placed among the Simarubeae.

- praecedentes duae species, sub nomine unico A. pctrophilae Ehrh. saepe connexae, notis datis distinctissimae. An Hedwigius ipse auctor hasce species duas recte cognoverit, nescimus. Dubitamus (C. Muell.), the preceding two species, often united under the single name Andreaea petrophila Ehrh. are completely separate by the characters given. Perhaps the author, Hedwig himself, may have correctly recognized these very two species, we [i.e. I] do not know. We [i.e. I] doubt it.

- [moss] C1. Hooker folia fere e basi serrata descripsit et delineavit. An recte? An propria species? (C. Muell.), the noted Hooker described and illustreated the leaves as serrate nearly from the base. Perhaps correctly? Perhaps a proper species?

- [moss] cognitionem Bryi bimi et pseudotriquetri auctores plurimi quam maxime confusam fecerunt adeo, ut synonyma vix recte intelligi possint (C. Muell.), most authors have made as much as possible a confused [i.e. disorderly] conception of Bryum bimum and pseudotriquetrum to such an extent that the synonyms can hardly be correctly distinquished.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
