A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
saccharinus,-a,-um (adj.A): sugary; see saccharatus,-a,-um (adj.A);

- in Antillis insulis omnibus et terra continente vicina, in muris, agris saccharinis rupibusque (C. Mueller), in all the Antilles islands and the neighboring continent [i.e. mainland], on walls, sugar-fields and rocks [i.e. fields of Sugarcanes, or grasses of the genus Saccharum].

Aceraceae: “All the larger species abound in a saccharine sap, from which, the fine crystalline sugar of North America is prepared (Paxton).

Laminaria (an alga): In Iceland, an extract is obtained from L. saccharina, which is used by the poorer inhabitants as a substitute for sugar (Paxton).
