A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
saltem (adv.): at least, at any rate, in any case, anyhow;

- nos saltem fungum bis modo inventum in herbis admodum heterogeneis, Cerastio vulgato et Potentilla norvegica, offendimus (S&A), we at any rate came upon the fungus, found only twice, on completely heterogeneous herbs, [on] Cerastium vulgatum and Potentilla norvegica.

- squamis hypogynis acute mediotenus bilobis germini saltem aequilongis (F. Mueller), with the hypogynous scales acutely bilobed reaching as far as the middle, at least as long as the ovary.

- hypanthio intus saltem ex parte sericeo, with the hypanthium inside at least in part sericeous.

- stylus saltem post fecundationem excentricus vel lateralis, style at least after fertilization eccentric or lateral.

- caules plus minus ad basin saltem foliati, the stems more or less at least at the base foliate.

- folia, saltem in pagina superiore, punctis resinosis conspersa (B&H), the leaves, at least on the upper side, sprinkled with resinous dots.

- herbae fruticesve, foliis saltem inferioribus oppositis rarius alternis indivisis(B&H), herbs or shrubs, with leaves at least the lower opposite, very rarely alternate, undivided.

- petala explánata, per anthesin saepius patentia, omnia v. saltem interiora imbricata.(B&H), the petals spread out flat, more often throughout anthesis spreading, all or at least the inner imbricate.

- floribus hermaphroditis sericeo-pubescentibus, tubi articulo superiore longitudinem limbi saltem duplo excedente, genitaliis subinclusis (F. Mueller), with the hermaphrodite flowers silky-pubescent, with the upper joint of the tube exceeding at least double the length of the limb, somewhat enclosing the sexual organs.

- herbae aut suffrutices, caulibus saltem junioribus articulato-nodosis ad articulationes, ut in Ampelideis, solubilibus (DeCandole), herbs or subshrubs, with at least the younger stems jointed-nodose at the articulations, as in Ampelideae, breaking into pieces.
