A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
samariformis,-e (adj.B) [incorrectly samaraeformis,-e (adj.B)]: shaped like a samara, samariform, with a hard body in the middle or at one end, with an extension from or surrounded by a dry, papery wing;

- [Melanoxylon; Leguminosae] semina transversa, oblonga, compressa, integumento interiore coriaceo nitido appresso, exteriore samariformi laxo membranaceo, apice in alam falcatam truncatam usque ad marginem valvularum extensam producto (B&H), the seeds transverse, oblong, compressed, with the inner integument leathery, shining, appressed, with the outer in the shape of a samara, lax, membranaceous, at the apex prolonged into a falcate, truncate wing, extensed as far as the margin of the valvules.

- [Juliania; Anacardiaceae] Fructus (in specimine monstroso), cum pedicello samaraeformi confluens, apice paulo incrassatus, pro maxima parte compressus, coriaceus, 1-locularis (B&H), the fruit (in one monstrous [i.e. unnatural] specimen), confluent with a samariform pedicel, somewhat thickened at the apex, for the most part compressed, leathery, 1-locular.

- [Magnoliaceae] carpella tot quot ovaria, nunc capsularia rima supera dehiscentia, nunc capsularia bivalvia rima infera dehiscentia, nunc follicularia, nunc subcarnosa indehiscentia, nunc, samaraeforia (DeCandolle), the carpels as many as the ovaries, sometimes capsular dehiscing from an upper fissure, sometimes capsular, bivalves, dehiscing from the lower fissure, sometimes follicular, sometimes slightly fleshy indehiscent, sometimes in the shape of a samara.

- [Hiraea] carpella samaraeformia 3, rarius duo, 1-sperma, dorso cristata, ala membranacea circumdata (DeCandolle), the carpels shaped like a samara 3, more rarely 2, 1-seeded, crested on the back, surrounded with a membranaceous wing.
