A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
samaroideus,-a,-um (adj.A), also samarideus,-a,-um (adj.A) [=+ eidos, resemblance]: samarideous, samaroid; like or resembling a samara, approaching a samara in shape, i.e. with a hard body in the middle or at one end, with an extension from or surrounded by a dry, papery wing; “used of a fruit resembling a samara” (Jackson);

- carpella matura samaroidea, stellato-patentia, dorso in alam longam falcatam producta (B&H), mature carpels samaroid, stellate-spreading, extended on the back into a long, falcate wing.

- carpella oblongo-spicata, 2-ovulata; demum samaroidea (stylo nempe persistente in alam lanceolatam dilatato) (B&H), the carpels oblong-spicate, with two ovules, in the end like a samara (in other words with the persistent style dilated into a lanceolate wing).

- fructus samaroideus v. cristatus (B&H), the fruit samaroid or crested.

- fructus samaroideus, indehiscens, basi coriaceus v. lignosus, et saepe varie cristatus, apice in alam elongatam rarius brevem productus (B&H), the fruit like a samara, indehiscent, leathery or woody at the base, and often variously crested, at the apex prolonged into an elongate, more rarely short, wing.

- [Pterogyne; Leguminosae] legumen samaroideum, plano-compressum, indehiscens, basi seminifera oblique ovato-acuminata coriacea, ala tenui rigida(B&H), the legume like a samara, plano-compressed, indehiscent, at the base seed-bearing, obliquely ovate-acuminate, leathery, with a thin, rigid wing.

- [Pterolobium; Leguminosae] Legumen sessile, compressum, samaroideum, indehiscens, basi seminifera oblique ovata, apice in alam membranaceam oblique oblongam v. falcatam productum (B&H), the legume sessile, compressed, samaroid, indehiscent, at the base seed-bearing, obliquely ovate, at the apex prolonged into a membranaceous obliquely oblong or falcate wing.

- [Ferreirea; Leguminosae] legumen (a nobis non visum) stipitatum, samaroideum, 1-spermum, indehiscens, apice in alam membranaceam dorso incrassatam transverse venosam productum (B&H), the legume (by us not seen) stalked, like a samara, 1-seeded, indehiscent, at the apex prolonged into a membranaceous wing, thickened on the back, transversely veined.

[Liriodendron] Carpella 2-ovulata, matura samaroidea indehiscentia (B&H), carpels 2-ovulate, the mature ones resembling a samara, not dehiscent.
