A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Sand dune, dune (Eng.noun), “a hill or ridge of sand piled up by the wind commonly found along shores, along some river valleys, and generally where there is dry surface sand during some part of the year” (WIII): thinium,-ii (s.n.II), q.v., abl. sg. thinio; see syrti-, in Gk. comp. sandbank, sand dune; see sandbar.

“In physical geography, a dune is a hill of loose sand built by aeolian processes (wind) or the flow of water” (Wikipedia “Dune” Aug. 2019).

Syrticola,-ae (s.f.I): cyrticolous, a dweller on sand dunes. syrticus,-a,-um (adj.A): relating to sand-dunes or sandbanks.

Vitis riparia var. syrticola (Fern. & Wieg.) Fern. 'dweller on sand-dunes,' the Dune-Grape.
