A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
schistosus,-a,-um (adj.A): schistose, split, divided, fissile, cracking easily;

- lapis,-idis (s.m.III) schistosus, abl.sg. lapide schistoso: schistose stone, i.e. fissile stone.

- in cacumine schistoso-lapidoso montis Lapérouse Tasmaniae (F. Mueller), on the schistose-stony extreme top [i.e. peak] of Lapérouse Mountain of Tasmania.

- Habitat stirps elegantissima in glariosis schistosis ad juga summa Sierra Nevada regni Granatensis (Boissier), a most elegant plant grows in schistose gravelly [places] on the highest ridge of the Sierra Nevada of the Kingdom of Granada.

- in rupibus schistosis, basalticis et porphyraceis Galliae occidentalis (C. Mueller), on schistose, basaltic and porphyraceous rocks of western France.

- [lichen] ad saxa micaceo-schistosa prope Cannes Galliae meridionalis observatum a D" Bornet (Nyl.), on micaceous-schistose stones near Cannes of southern France observed by Dr. Bornet.

NOTE: geologically, schist is “a medium or coarse-grained metamorphic rock with subparallel orientation of the micaceous minerals which dominate its composition” (Dict. Geol. Terms. 1962, Amer. Geol. Inst.).
