A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
sero (adv.): late; compar. serius (adv.): later; see slow;

- tela primum alba, serius pallide luteola, tela at first white, later pale yellow.

- fructus nobis ignotus, structura ovulorum serius investiganda (B&H), the fruit by us unknown, with the structure of the ovules to be investigated later [i.e. at some future time].

- stylus 1 (rarius 2) filiformis, primum circinatus, stigmate capitellato serius truncato, ceteri rudimentarii (B&H), style one (more rarely 2), thread-like, at first circinate, with the stigma capitellate [i.e. with a small head], later truncate, the rest undeveloped.

- [Umbelliferae] carpophylli marginum sutura semper in media facie carpelli sita, costam saepius efficit serius in forma carpophori solvendam (B&H), the suture of the margins of the carpophyll always situated in the median face of the carpel, more often, later separating, it later produces a costa [i.e. rib], in the form of a carpophore.

- rationem operis et systematis hic expositi in praefatione serius edenda fusius exponemus, simulque clavem artificialem Ordinum dare proponimus (B&H), we will more fully set forth the plan of the work and the system here put forth to be brought out in a preface, and, at the same time, we propose [i.e. intend] to give an artificial key of the Orders.

dein (adv.), deinde (adv.): (in order of succession, spatial or temporal), then, next, thereafter, thereupon;

- sub germinatione epistomium e poro exitus 6-8 um lato depulsum deinde evanescens, at germination the plug is expelled through an exit pore 6-8 um wide, thereupon vanishing.

denique (adv.): (in order of succession) at last, at length, finally, ultimately;

- pileus primum obscure ruber, tum pallide rubro-purpurascens, denique griseo-viridis tinctus, pileus first dull red, then pale red-purple, finally grey-green colored.
