A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
setaceus (adj.A), setiformis,-e (adj.B): setaceous, bristle-like, bristle-shaped; “applied to the stem it means slender, less than subulate” (Jackson); (fungi) “(of a stipe) slender as a bristle” (S&D);

- stipes setaceus, abl. sg. stipite setaceo, stipe slender as a bristle.

- foliis involucralibus sessilibus in lobos setaceos multifldis (DeCandolle), with the involucral leaves sessile divided many times into bristle-like lobes.

- [algae] Fucus filifolius, caule tereti filiformi, vesiculis ovalibus moniliformiter conjunctis, foliis setaceis dichotomis (Agardh), Fucus filifolius, with the stem rounded-cylindric, thread-shaped, with the vesicles oval, connected moniliformly [i.e. like a necklace], with the leaves setaceous [i.e. bristle-like] dichotomous.

- [algae] Ramos tenuiores Confervam quamdam parasitam mentientes, setaceos- vel capillaries (Agardh), branches more thin, resembling a certain Conferva, seta-like or like a capillus

- [fungi] ostiolis setaceis tenuissimis strictiusculis (S&A), with the ostioles bristle-shaped very thin, nearly straight.

lineari-setaceus,-a,-um (adj.A): with the bristles linear;

- foliis lineari-setaceis integris (DeCandolle), with the leaves linear-setaceous, entire.

longisetaceus,-a,-um (adj.A): with a long seta.

rectisetaceus,-a,-um (adj.A): with a straight seta.

setaceo-linearis,-e (adj.B): setaceously linear, linear like a bristle;

- bracteis setaceo-linearibus (DeCandolle), with the bracts linear like bristles.

setaceo-serratus,-a,-um (adj.A): “having the serratures ending in [one or several] bristle-like points” (Lindley).

“The common Receptacle, (receptaculum commune), is of wide circumference, and contains a multitude of flowers. It is of the following kinds: Setaceous, (receptaculum setaceus), that is covered with stiff, bristle-like hairs” (Willdenow); see receptacle.
