Sickle (Eng.noun), ), = scythe (Eng.noun), “an agricultural implement consisting of a hook-shaped metal blade with a short handle; sickle: having the form of a sickle blade: having a lunate curve similar to that of a sickle blade (the sickle moon)” (WIII): “something that is suggestive of a sickle in shape or use: crescent” (WIII); falx, gen. sg. falcis (s.f.III), abl. sg. falce, a pruning-hook, sickle, scythe, reaping hook; secula,-ae (s.f.I), “sickle, so called by the Campanians” (Lewis & Short); see billhook.

Sickle “= Drepanium (Potter)” (Jackson).

Drepanium,-ii (s.n.II), q.v., abl.sg. drepanio: “a sickle-shaped cyme” (Jackson).
sickle-shaped, scythe-shaped: acinaciformis,-e (adj.B), q.v. scimitar-shaped, a curved blade with the edge on the convex side; cultriformis,-e (adj.B) cultriform, shaped like a knife or a plowshare, curved and asymmetric like a short, broad scimitar drepaniformis,-e (adj.B), drepaniform, shaped like a sickle, falcate; falcatus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v., falcarius,-a,-um (adj.A), falcatorius,-a,-um (adj.A), falciformis,-e (adj.B): falcate, sickle-shaped, curved as a sickle or scythe; lunatus,-a,-um (adj.A), half-moon-shaped, crescent-shaped, lunated, falcated; seculiformis,-e (adj.B): sickle-shape; crescent shape [> L. culter,-tri, s.m.II) a plough-coulter, ploughshare; a knife, as a butcher or hunter's knife]. - carpella matura samaroidea, stellato-patentia, dorso in alam longam falcatam producta (B&H), mature carpels samaroid, stellate-spreading, extended on the back into a long, falcate wing.

- antherae falcato-oblonga,connectivo crasso (B&H), anthers falcate-oblong, with a thick connective.

- folia alterna, impari-pinnata, foliolis oo-jugis falcatis (B&H), the leaves alternate, unequally pinnate, with the leaflets indeterminate-paired (joined) falcate.

- ovarium (post anthesin) in samaram lente falcatam productum (B&H), the ovary (after flowering) drawn out into a gradually falcate samara.

Sickle cell: meniscocyte, meniscocytum,-i (s.n.II), abl. sg. meniscocyto [> Gk. mEniskos, crescent + English ‘cyte:’ a sickle cell]; see -cyte.

Sickle-stage, “of nuclear division, Zimmerman’s term for the Paranucleus of Strasburger, a CRESCENT-shaped body at one margin of the nucleus, supposed to represent a stage in the disappearance of the nucleolus” (Jackson): paranucleus,-i (s.m.II), abl. sg. paranucleo.
