A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
silaceus,-a,-um (adj.A), also silacius,-a,-um (adj.A) “like ochre, of ochre” (Lewis & Short) [> L. sil, gen.sg. silis (s.n.III), abl. sg. sile: “a kind of yellowish earth, yellow ochre” (Lewis & Short)]; see ochraceus,-a,-um (adj.A).

NOTE: not siliceus,-a,-um (adj.A): siliceous, silicious, flinty, having a high silicon content.

- [lichen] in insula árctica Freti Behringiani (Wright), in locis collinis nudis, supra lapillos silaceos, etc., ex Tuck. l. c. (Nyl.), on the arctic island of the Behring Strait (Wright), in bare, hilly places upon yellowish-brown pebbles, etc., according to Tuckerman in the places cited.

- [lichen] ad cortices et ligna variarum arborum viget, semelque mihi obvium fuit saxicolum ecrustaceum ad saxa arenario-silacea sylvae Fontainebleau in regione Parisiensi (Nyl.), it florishes on the barks and woods of various trees, and was once encountered saxicolous, lacking a thallus on sandy-yellowish-brown [i.e. ochre] stones of the Fontainebleau forest in the region of Paris.

- [lichen] supra saxa calcareo-silacea prope Dunkerron in Hibernia (Nyl.), above calcareous-yellow-ochre stones near Dunkerron in Ireland.

arenario-silaceus,-a,-um (adj.A): a sand-colored yellowish-brown; - [lichen] ad cortices et ligna variarum arborum viget, semelque mihi obvium fuit saxicolum ecrustaceum ad saxa arenario-silacea sylvae Fontainebleau in regione Parisiensi (Nyl.), it florishes on the barks and woods of various trees, and was once encountered saxicolous, lacking a thallus on sand-colored yellowish-brown [i.e. ochre] stones of the Fontainebleau forest in the region of Paris.

(fish) Gerres silaceus, Malayan silver-biddy: the fish body and head uniformly silvery-ochre

(fungi) Pratella silacea: subgregaria terrestris vel truncigena, pileo carnoso viscoso flavo sordide rufo vel subolivascente, lamellis subdistinctis (vix virescente-) cinereis demum ferrugineo - fuscis (S&A), somewhat collonial, living on earth or born on [tree]trunks, with the pileus fleshy, sticky, yellow, dirty red or somewhat olive-color, with the lamellae somewhat separate (scarcely greenish to) ashy gray, finally rusty-red to blackish-brown.

(fungi) Streptomyces atriruber sp. nov. and Streptomyces silaceus sp. nov., two novel species of equine origin. Labeda DP1, Price NP, Kroppenstedt RM, Donahue JM, Williams NM, Sells SF. “The species names are based on the distinctive colours of the substrate mycelium of these strains, dark red and deep orange-yellow, respectively.”
