A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
sparteus,-a,-um (adj.A): made of Spanish broom; (of vessels) having a protective covering of broom” (Glare [> L. spartum,-I (s.n.II) + -eus];

- gramen sparteum setas equinas referens, e quibus javanenses tapetia texunt (Linn.; Algae), a grass resembling spartea [Spanish broom (Spartium junceum)], by which the Javanese weave cloth [i.e. such as rugs, hangings, covers].

Sparte,-es (s.f.I) > Gk. spartE: “Spanish broom, Spartium junceum” (Glare).

Spartea,-ae (s.f.I): “a loose shoe made of broom” (Glare).

Spartum,-i (s.n.II), abl.sg. sparto: the name of two or more plants valued for their fibrous stems, Spanish broom, Spartium junceum, and esparto-grass, Stipa tenacissima; (as a material for cordage, etc.); a rope made of spartum” (Glare).
