A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
stiriacus,-a,-um (adj.A): frozen [> L. stiria,-ae (s.f.I), q.v., a frozen drop];

- gutta stiriaca, a frozen drop, an ice-drop.

Sempervivum montanum subsp. stiriacum, Mountain Houseleek, native to eastern Austria (Steiermark).

NOTE: stiriacus,-a,-um (adj.A), is the adjective of Stiria,-ae (s.f.I): Steiermark, a state of southeastern Austria (Stearn 1983);

- in nemoribus & umbrosis declivibusque omnium Austriacarum atque Stiriacarum Alpium locis, juxta rivulos e liquescente nive profluentes, &c. (Ray), in the open woodlands and shady places and the declivities of all [i.e. each and every] of the Austrian and also Stiriacan [i.e. of Steiermark state] Alps, near small brooks flowing out from the melting snow, & etc.
