A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
supremus,-a,-um (adj.A): highest, uppermost, topmost, loftiest, supreme; last, latest, final, extreme; one of the three superlatives of superus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v., 'that is above, upper, higher'; opp. infimus,-a,-um (adj.A), the lowest, lowermost, bottommost (superl. of inferus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v.); see high, low, tall; see uppermost;

- bracteae infimae folia suprema simulantes, lowest bracts resembling the highest leaves.

- racemi in axillis supremis v. ad apices ramorum paniculati (B&H), racemes in the topmost axils or paniculate at the apices of branches.

- folia integerrima, suprema saepe subverticillata (B&H), leaves quite entire, the uppermost somewhat verticillate.

- flores enim regulares dicuntur, sepalo supremo basi foveolato nec calcarato (B&H), for the flowers are said to be regular, with the topmost sepal foveolate at the base, not spurred.

- [algae] articuli primariorum [sc. filorum] infimi diametro breviores, medii paulo longiores, supremi subaequales, eximie obscuri, venis sub 4 difficilius distinguendis (Agardh), the lowermost joints [i.e. articulations] of the primary [filaments] shorter in diameter, the middle longer, the terminal ones somewhat equal, extremely difficult to see, with the veins under 4, harder to distinguish.

NOTE: filum primarium; filum medium, filum supremum: filaments of the first rank (primarius,-a,-um (adj.A), the middle rank (medius,-a,-um (adj.A), the topmost (i.e. highest) rank.
