A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
sustentus,-a,-um (part.A): upheld, supported; nourished + abl. of means [> L. sustineo,-tinui,-tentum, 2. to hold up, support; to nourish, sustain, support, preserve]; see supported;

- herbis per laticem emulsivum sustentis, with herbs nourished by a latex with a milky texture.

- rami comaeque ponderosi truncis sustenti, heavy branches and canopy supported by the trunks.

- sporae in aquis pinguibus sustentae, spores nourished in rich water.

- foliis fertilibus petiolis grandibus sustentis, with the fertile leaves supported by the large petioles.

- caules infirmi cellulis inflatis sustenti, weak stems supported by inflated cells.

 

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
