taking away: excerpens,-entis (part.B), ‘picking out, selecting, choosing; removing by selection, taking away;’ detrahens,-entis (part.B), ‘taking away, removing, withdrawing’ both with acc. and de + abl. or ex + abl., also with abl.; - hyphae pestilentes folia nulla detrahentes, diseased hyphae taking away no leaves. - aetate capsulas detrahente, with age removing the capsules. - testas atque ossa de cibo pisculento excerpens, (selectively) taking or picking out the shells and bones from seafood (fishy food). - excerpens semina pomis, picking out the seeds from fruit (pomum). - semina pomis excerpta, the seeds having been picked out from the fruits. - species bonae de malae excerptens, choosing the good species from the bad ones.
Taking away, the act of, removal: demptio,-onis (sf.III), abl. sg. demptione, ‘the action of taking away, removal;’ extractio,-onis (s.f.III), abl. sg. extractione: extraction, a pulling or drawing out, a drawing forth; a taking out, removal as of blood, water, as of refining metal;

- thallus in substrato nutricio (in substrato nutriciente) extracti malti crescens, thallus growing in a culture medium of extract of malt.

- propagationes interdum nidulantes in extracto sterili aquarum terrearum, proliferations sometimes nidulant in a sterile extract of soil-based water.

- testis atqua ossis de cibo pisculento excerptis, with the shells and bones (selectively) removed from seafood.
taking hold of, seizing; obtaining, getting; afflicting, overcoming: capiens,-entis (part.B);

- planta radicem capiens, the plant taking root (i.e. becoming established).

- hypha elongata hospitem capiente, with the elongate hypha seizing the host.
A taking, a seizing; capio,-onis (s.f.III), abl. sg. capione.
taking up, receiving, assimilating: assumens,-entis (part.B)

- phaeophora in cellulis assumentibus numerosa, phaeophores (chromato-phores) in assimilating cells numerous.
