A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

thallodes (adj.B), thalloides (adj.B), thalloideus,-a,-um (adj.A), thallodicus,-a,-um (adj.A), thallinus,-a,-um (adj.A): thallodial, thallose, like or pertaining to a thallus (Jackson); see thallosus,-a,-um (adj.A); cf. thalliformis,-e (adj. B).

cormodes, gen.sg. cormodis (adj.B): “possessing an axis (A. Braun)” (Jackson).

thallodes,-is (adj.B): “of or belonging to, or proceeding from a thallus” (Lindley).

- [algae] phycomatis nomine admisso aliarum quoque classium phytomata nominibus propriis salutanda forent, e. c. pro fungís mycoma, pro muscis bryoma, pro filicibus pteridoma adoptandum, quod quidem superfluum mihi videtur, quum duo tantum phytomatum genera secundum morphologicas rationes distinguenda sint, phytoma cormodes, Phanerogamis et Cryptogamis superioris ordinis proprium, et phytoma t h a l l o d e s in Cryptogamis inferioribus obvium (Braun),

since the name of ‘phycoma’ has been accepted, the phytomata of other classes also ought to be greeted with characteristic names [i.e. terms], e.c.[= exempli causa, for example] for fungi ‘mycoma,’ ought to be adopted, for mosses ‘bryoma,’ for ferns ‘pteridoma,’ which to be sure, seems superfluous to me, when only two kinds of phytomata, following morphological considerations, may be distinguished, the phytoma cormodes [i.e. possessing an axis], characteristic to Phanerogams and higher order Cryptogams, and phytoma thallodes [i.e. “of or belonging to, or proceeding from a thallus”] encountered in the lower Cryptogams.

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
