A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Thallospore, in fungi, “an asexual spore having no conidiophore, or one which is not separated from the hypha or conidiophore producing it; i.e. an arthrospore, blastospore, or chlamydospore (and aleuriospore) (after Vuillemin; see Mason, 1933) (Ainsworth & Bisby); (fungi) “a spore formed on the thallus or mycelium (Vuillemin 1910); it is of two types: a) intercalary, formed singly or in chains within a hypha and liberated by the disintegration of the hyphal wall; b. terminal, as the swollen end of a hypha and not a distinct structure formed ‘de novo.’ (Synonyms: ‘fuseau’ in part; ‘aleurospore’ in part, ‘conidium’ in part, ‘blastospores,’ ‘arthrospores,’ chlamydospores,’ and ‘oidia’ are also thallospores (the first three recognized by Vuillemin) (Mason, 1933)” (S&D); “a spore not abstricted from a conidiophore; esp. a spore (as a blastospore) developing by septation or budding of hyphal cells” (WIII): thallospora,-ae (s.f.I), abl. sg. thallospora.
