A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

Tremella,-ae (s.f.I), a genus of fungi (Tremellaceae), parasitic on other [wood-rotting] fungi, most of them producing anamorphic yeast states; basidiocarps (fruit bodies) gelatinous; a member of the Tremellales (Basidiomycetes), or Jelly Fungi, characterized by gelatinous fruiting bodies and gelatinous flesh; “The yellow to orange species look like so many amorphous chunks of butter and have been called “Witches’ Butter” (Miller).

(Fungi:) Tremellidium, Tremellodendron, Tremellodiscus, Tremellodon, Tremellogaster.

Genus Tremella “one of the original genera created by Linnaeus in his Species Plantarum of 1753.... Linnaeus placed Tremella in the algae, including within it a variety of gelatinous growths, including seaweeds, cyanobacteria, and myxomycetes, as well as fungi” (Tremella; Wikipedia, January 2019). Revised by Persoon in 1794 and 1801, “repositioning the genus within the fungi.”

A work in progress, presently with preliminary A through R, and S, and with S (in part) through Z essentially completed.
