A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
valens,-entis (part.B), compar. valentior,-ius, superl. valentissimus,-a,-um (adj.A): strong, stout, vigorous, powerful; strong in health, healthy [> L. valeo,-ui,-itum, 2. to be strong, vigorous; to be healthy]; see vigorous;

- ex leguminibus valentior faba quam pisum, among the legumes the faba is more nutritive (i.e. powerful) than the pea.

- chloroplastus in cellulis valentibus incisuris 2-4 instructus, chloroplast in healthy cells provided with 2-4 incisions.

- (fungus) stipes aeque ac pileus coelo humente lubricus, solidus, valens , (S&A), the stipe just as the pileus in damp weather slimy [i.e. smooth and slippery], solid [i.e. dense], stout.
