vilis,-e (adj.B); superl. vilissimus,-a,-um (adj.A): of small price or value, purchased or sold at a low rate (price), cheap; of trifling value, cheap, poor, paltry, common, mean, worthless, base, vile; to sell at a low price; also, found in great quantities, abundant, common; opp. carus,-a,-um (adj.A), q.v., of high price, precious, dear, valuable, prized; useful, important; worthwhile; opp. pretiosus,-a,-um (adj.A), precious, valuable, of great value; of great cost, costly; cf. indignus,-a,-um (adj.A); cf. vulgaris,-e (adj.B); see ‘poor;’

- abl. neutr: vili vendere, to sell cheap, to sell at low price;

- poma vilia, common apples, abundant apples.

- phaselus,-i (s.m.II) vilis, abl.sg. phaselo vili, the common bean (a kind of bean with an edible pod, kidney-bean, phasel); (cf. Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

- vili vendere, to sell at or for a low price [dative sg.].

- Confervæ vilissimæ filtris aptæ sunt sicuti terrestres Musci domicilia insectis terrestribus dant (Dill.), Conferva most abundant suited for [felts or filters] just as terrestrial mosses supply the dwelling places for terrestrial insects.
