Fragments from the Botanical Frontier: ARKANSAS

This Trailways bus brochure, probably from the 1940s, promised customers that modern transportation meant a carefree vacation. No doubt their disclaimers under "Objectionable Persons" and "Restrictions" were also thought to ensure that carefree quality. Though Demaree rode Trailways buses all over the country, he ended up going to Mexico by car with his Stanford professor, Ira Wiggins, in 1930. Missouri Botanical Garden collections. This packet of specimen labels, is a composite of a utility bill envelope and luggage tags, testifies to Demaree's frugality, or perhaps fieldwork budget limitations.
